There must be at least 200 old sewing machines (mainly Singers) in the window of All Saints on Market Street at the moment. Pretty cool.

Complete Knitters, the Manchester Central Library knitting group, meets once a month. We have a nice mix of age and ability, beginners are welcome. Meeting dates for the next few months:

NEW BABY

We've got a new great nephew in the family - Samuel Thomas - and here's some photos of the outfit I've made him. The jacket is from Debbie Bliss "Essential Baby" (copy from the Library) and the hat is two pieces of fairisle with rib sewn together with mini plaits inserted in top corners. I inflicted hats like that on my two boys, so I hope Sam enjoys his!

Knitting Exhibition Stockport

Hi, Just thought i would let you know about a exhibition on at that members may be interested in. It's on at Stockport Art Gallery from from 12th January - 16th February and is called Ret og Vrang (this is Danish for knit and purl!). It is by a Danish friend of mine who lives in Chapel and he knits large sculptural pieces with extremely large balls of steel wool. (Rose he is the guy i mentioned when we talked ages ago about knitting in the round in Central Library - i still think we ought to plan something like this for National Knitting week this October!) There is also another related exhibition on at S.A.G called The Wider Picture, by TAG (Textile Art Group).

On Saturday 12th Karl did a workshop in the gallery, creating a large circular piece of knitting in the round, involving many people, using both yarn and industrial materials. This was a great success with over 150 people taking part, including many who had never knitted before but got into the spirit of things, while chatting, exchanging contact details and making new friends, all while knitting. In the evening the opening was held where people could also come along and knit while enjoying a glass of wine. Even the non-knitters had a good time. It was great fun.

So successful was it that the gallery are holding another knitting workshop Saturday 19th January 2008 2-4pm. come along, have a look at the exhibitions and join in the Big Knit. If you want to make a day of it Stockport also has the Hat Museum to visit and Wool a great little yarn store on the market place.

What a great idea to set up a blog for the group, and thanks to Patty for getting it running. I've been coming to the group since October 2006 and love the mixture of chatting, knitting, eating and exchanging ideas.

If I can work the technology - I'd love to post photos of recent work - but I think that is maybe a tad ambitious for 1st attempt at blogging!

Off to get intensive digital camera instruction from son.

The first meeting of 2008 will be on January 9th at the 8th Day Cafe on Oxford Road from 5.30 to 7.30. All welcome.

Meetings will be fortnightly from that date.

This is the blog for the Complete Knitters group in Manchester. We meet every 2 weeks at the 8th Day coop on Oxford Rd and this is a new forum for us to keep in touch and show each other what we've been up to.

The group has a great mix of age and ability. We started around the middle of 2006 and we have seen many different people over the months since then, including some art and design students, a German sock knitting enthusiast, and even a couple of men!

When I started I didn't know any stitches other that the basic knit stitch, however I have now kitted several garments, made felted items, and yes, knitted some socks.

Hopefully soon we will have photos up here and other stories about the adventures of the complete knitters!
